Patient Suffering from Migraines Are More Prone To Be Depressed
Woman with headache, in particular migraines, are more predisposed to suffer from depression disorder, feel exhausted, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The study involved 1700 patient who buy citalopram online at headache clinics in five US states. Of the women surveyed, 115 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 887 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were tested with migraines.
The medical trial found patient with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among patient diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the people also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms would provoke or be a manifestation of major Psychotic Depression in patients with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Manic Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”
Tietjen says clinical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Regardless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disease such as Depression complicates headache treatment and can rouse poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.
The clinical study was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American woman suffer from headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 16000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to amending women care through education and clinical study. A neurologist is a general practitioner with a wide knowladge of monitoring, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and multiple sclerosis.
